Microsoft¿ Internet Mail and News 1.0 Welcome Thank you for downloading Microsoft¿ Internet Mail and News 1.0. Internet Mail and News lets you communicate with others on the Internet through electronic mail and newsgroups. Electronic mail, or e-mail, lets you exchange messages and files with other people on the Internet. Internet newsgroups consist of messages by individuals, organized by topic. You can take part by posting a message of your own, responding to a message, or sending an e-mail message directly to the author of a message. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Requirements System Requirements Ñ 68030 processor or better Ñ System 7.1 and above Ñ 8 MB of RAM Ñ 4 MB of hard disk space to install. You can install with less if you do not include the Help folder. Ñ 1 MB of hard disk space to run, depending on the amount of e-mail you receive. Access to the Internet You must have access to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider or the network to which your computer is connected. Internet software If you have a 68k Macintosh: Ñ MacTCP (Control Panel) Ñ If you are a dial-up user, Config PPP or similar PPP connection software (Control Panel) with PPP (Extension) If you have a Power Macintosh (such as Power Macintosh 7200, 7500, 8500, 9500): Ñ Open Transport 1.08 or greater (Extension) Ñ If you are a dial-up user, Config PPP or similar PPP connection software (Control Panel) with PPP (Extension) Ñ TCP/IP (Control Panel) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Internet Config Internet Config is an application that stores all your settings for Internet applications (such as news/mail server, Helpers, and personal information). Using Internet Config, you can create a "link" between Internet Mail and News and Internet Explorer so that when you click on an e-mail address or newsgroup address while browsing the Web, Internet Explorer will tell Internet Mail and News to display the newsgroup, or create a new e-mail message addressed to the address in the e-mail link you clicked. Information on setting up Internet Config is contained in Help. To view the Help, start Internet Mail and News and choose Help from the Apple Menu. At the time of this release, the Internet Config Home Page on the World Wide Web is <ftp://mirrors.aol.com/pub/peterlewis> ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Reporting Bugs/Suggestions To report bugs, send mail to msmacimn@microsoft.com. The easiest way is to open the "Reporting Bugs/Suggestions" message in your Inbox and click the Reply To Sender button. Please include: Ñ System configuration information Ñ Version of operating system Ñ Type of Macintosh Ñ Type of connection to the Internet Ñ Steps that lead to the bug. For example: 1. Start Internet Mail and News. 2. On the File menu, choose Open. 3. Click the Cancel button. 4. Result: Nothing happens. Ñ Any other information that will help us reproduce the bug successfully.
